Small Batch M&M Rice Krispie Treats

There’s just something about a classic Rice Krispie treat that never gets old—especially when you add a colorful, chocolatey twist. These M&M Rice Krispie treats are everything you want in a quick, no-bake dessert: soft, gooey, buttery, and packed with pops of crunchy candy in every bite. This smaller batch is perfect for a cozy weekend at home, whether you’re making something fun with family or just want a sweet treat sitting on the counter.

What makes these extra special (besides the M&Ms, of course) is how incredibly easy they are to throw together. We’re talking simple pantry staples—nothing fancy, nothing complicated. Melt, mix, and press (gently!) into a pan, and you’re basically done. No oven, no stress, and barely any cleanup. It’s one of those recipes you can make on a whim when a sweet craving hits.

The texture here is key: perfectly soft and chewy, never hard or dense. The trick is to avoid packing the mixture too tightly into the pan. Keeping it light and fluffy gives you that classic, melt-in-your-mouth bite that makes Rice Krispie treats so irresistible. Add in the slight crunch of cereal and candy shells, and you’ve got the ultimate balance.

Whether you cut them into big squares or smaller snackable bites, these treats are guaranteed to disappear fast. They’re nostalgic, colorful, and just plain fun—exactly the kind of dessert everyone reaches for.

  • Perfect small batch (makes about 9–12 squares)
  • Soft, gooey, and never too hard
  • Bright, colorful, and fun for all ages
  • Made with simple ingredients you likely already have
  • Perfect for weekends, parties, or casual snacking

Make-Ahead & Storage

  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days for best freshness
  • Keep them covered to prevent them from drying out
  • You can make them a day ahead—just wait to cut until ready to serve for the best texture
  • Avoid refrigerating, as this can make them firm and less chewy

Ingredients

  • 5 tablespoons + 1 teaspoon unsalted butter (about 76g)
  • 10 ounces marshmallows (about 283g)
  • 3 ¾ cups Rice Krispie cereal (about 105g)
  • ¾ cup mini M&Ms (about 130g)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Line a 9×9-inch pan with parchment paper and lightly grease with cooking spray. Set aside.
  2. In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
  3. Add the marshmallows and stir with a spatula until fully melted, then remove from heat immediately.

4. Pour the marshmallow mixture into a large mixing bowl.

5. Add the Rice Krispie cereal and gently fold with a rubber spatula until evenly coated.

    6. Gently fold in the mini M&Ms.

      7. Transfer the mixture to the prepared pan and use a greased spatula to spread into an even layer. Do not press down—this keeps them soft and fluffy.

      8. Let sit at room temperature for at least 10 minutes to set.

      9. Cut into squares and enjoy.
