Why These Cookies Have the Perfect Crinkle
The secret to beautiful crinkle cookies comes down to three things:
- Chilling the dough
- Generously coating the dough in powdered sugar
- Slightly underbaking the cookies
As the chilled dough bakes, the cookies spread and puff up while the powdered sugar coating cracks apart, creating that classic crinkle effect. The result is soft, chewy cookies with beautiful snowy cracks across the surface.

Important Key Notes
- Chilling the dough is essential for thick cookies and defined crinkles. Do not skip this step.
- For the best crinkle effect, coat the dough balls very generously in powdered sugar.
- Slightly underbaking the cookies helps maintain a soft center and enhances the crackled appearance.
- Fresh lime zest gives the strongest natural citrus flavor.
- If your dough feels too soft to roll, chill it a bit longer before scooping.
- Roll the dough evenly for uniform baking.
Bake Ahead & Storage
Make Ahead
The cookie dough can be made ahead and stored covered in the refrigerator for up to 2 days before baking.
You can also scoop and roll the dough balls ahead of time and refrigerate them until ready to bake.
Storage
Store baked cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days.
The cookies stay soft and chewy for days, making them perfect for preparing ahead for parties or gatherings.
