Royal Wedding Tea Loaf
There are some recipes that feel like they belong at a cozy breakfast table, and then there are recipes that feel like they belong at an afternoon tea in a blooming English garden. This Royal Wedding Tea Loaf is exactly that.
The inspiration for this recipe came the moment I opened Harney & Sons’ Royal Wedding Tea. The delicate blend of white tea, fragrant rose petals, creamy vanilla, toasted almond, coconut, blue cornflowers, and golden marigold petals immediately transported me to a garden in full bloom. Every sip felt elegant, timeless, and just a little magical.
Created to celebrate the 2011 wedding of Prince William and Catherine (Kate) Middleton, Harney & Sons’ Royal Wedding Tea captures the beauty and joy of such a special occasion. I wanted to bring those same flavors into a dessert that felt equally memorable.

To complement the tea, I started with rich browned butter, giving the loaf a warm caramelized flavor and a beautifully golden crumb. Honey adds delicate sweetness while real vanilla bean fills every bite with tiny specks of fragrant vanilla. Once baked, the loaf is finished with a thick vanilla bean glaze and scattered with edible rose petals, blue cornflowers, and marigold petals, mirroring the beautiful ingredients found inside the tea itself.
Whether you’re hosting afternoon tea, celebrating a bridal shower, gathering with friends, or simply treating yourself to a quiet afternoon, this loaf is one of those recipes that makes any day feel a little more special.
A huge thank you to Harney & Sons for gifting me their incredible Royal Wedding Tea and inspiring this recipe. It has quickly become one of my favorite teas, and I couldn’t imagine a more beautiful way to celebrate its delicate flavors than by transforming it into this elegant loaf.

- Be careful not to overmix the batter once the flour is added.
- If your loaf begins browning too quickly, loosely tent it with aluminum foil.
- Let the glaze naturally drip over the edges before decorating with edible flowers.
- Sprinkle the flowers onto the glaze while it’s still wet so they stick beautifully.

- 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter
- ½ cup (100g) granulated sugar
- ½ cup + 1 tbsp packed light brown sugar
- 100 grams honey
- 4 large eggs, room temperature
- Seeds from 1 whole vanilla bean
- ¼ teaspoon almond extract
- 2 cups (240g) all-purpose flour
- 1½ teaspoons baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
For the Vanilla Bean Glaze
- 1½ cups (180g) powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons whole milk
- Seeds from ½ vanilla bean
- ¼ teaspoon almond extract
For Decorating
- 2 tablespoons dried edible flowers (rose petals, blue cornflowers, and marigold petals)
Instructions
Brown the Butter
In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Continue cooking, stirring occasionally, until golden brown specks appear on the bottom of the pan and the butter smells rich and nutty, about 5–8 minutes.
Immediately pour the browned butter into a heatproof bowl, making sure to scrape in all of the flavorful brown bits. Allow it to cool at room temperature until it has the consistency of softened butter. This may take 45–60 minutes, or you can refrigerate it briefly, stirring every 10–15 minutes to ensure it cools evenly.
⸻
Infuse the Tea
While the butter cools, combine the milk and loose-leaf Royal Wedding Tea in a small saucepan over low heat. Heat just until the milk begins to steam—do not let it boil.
Remove from the heat and allow the tea to steep for 10–15 minutes.
Pour the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a measuring cup, pressing gently on the tea leaves to extract as much infused milk as possible. Set aside.
⸻
Prepare the Batter
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Line an 8½ x 4½-inch (1-pound) loaf pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the long sides for easy removal.
In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, cream together the cooled browned butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and honey on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.
Scrape down the bowl.
Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
Mix in the vanilla bean seeds and almond extract.
If the batter looks slightly curdled, don’t worry—it will come together once the dry ingredients are added.
⸻
Add the Dry Ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
With the mixer on low speed, add half of the dry ingredients.
Pour in the tea-infused milk.
Finish with the remaining dry ingredients, mixing just until no streaks of flour remain.
Do not overmix.

⸻
Bake
Transfer the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top with an offset spatula.

Bake for 55–65 minutes, or until the loaf is golden brown and a butter knife inserted into the center comes out mostly clean with just a few moist crumbs attached.
If the top begins browning too quickly, loosely tent the loaf with aluminum foil during the final 15–20 minutes of baking.
Allow the loaf to cool in the pan for 15 minutes before carefully lifting it out using the parchment paper. Transfer to a wire rack.
⸻
Make the Vanilla Bean Glaze
In a medium bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, vanilla bean seeds, and almond extract until smooth.
If needed, add a splash more milk to reach a thick but pourable consistency.
⸻
Decorate
While the loaf is still slightly warm, drizzle the vanilla bean glaze generously over the top, allowing it to naturally drip down the sides.
Immediately sprinkle the edible rose petals, blue cornflowers, and marigold petals over the glaze.
Allow the glaze to set for about 20 minutes before slicing and serving.
